ACIDOSTAT based on sodium alginate, carbonate and bicarbonate.
Sodium alginate - Extracted from seaweed
- Unique properties used in GERD*; Heartburn; Regurgitation
- Interacts with the acids (HCl) in the stomach
- It forms a gel-like substance (raft) – see image A
- It floats on top of the stomach content and acts as a physical barrier
- It prevents the acid from rising into the esophagus
- It acts very quickly (in minutes) for immediate relief
- In combination with different types of carbonates, after CO2 (carbon dioxide) release, alginate captures CO2 bubbles so it has a lower density than the contents of the stomach and will float for a long time with prolonged effect – Image B
- *GERD = Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
• It is an antacid
• It reacts with gastric acid (HCl)
• Improves the motor function of the esophagus, thereby improving acid clearance from the esophagus to the stomach
• It provides 120 minutes of acid neutralization (long lasting effect)
• 15-30% of calcium is absorbed (good source for calcium intake)
Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3)
- It is an antacid with slower and prolonged effect
- It is a strong basic inorganic salt that acts by neutralizing hydrochloric acid in the stomach
- It has cytoprotective effects
- Released CO2 increases the effect of alginate
Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
- It is an antacid with very rapid action
- It acts by neutralizing hydrochloric acid in the stomach quickly, thus reducing symptoms very fast (minutes)
- It has cytoprotective effects
- Released CO2 increases the effect of alginate

Pregnancy and lactation
• At the recommendation of the healthcare specialist, it is possible to administer the lowest effective dose:
• ½ or 1 tablet, as needed, without exceeding 3 tablets per day, for maximum 5 days
Proton pump inhibitors (PPI)
• Since PPIs have a maximum effect after 3-5 days, simultaneous administration of ACIDOSTAT is recommended for the rapid reduction of symptoms for 5 days
• After the first 5 days of PPI treatment, ACIDOSTAT can be administred as needed, while continuing with PPI
Potential drug interactions
• Due to the calcium content, simultaneous administration with some drugs is avoided: fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines, digoxin, iron salts, biphosphonates, PPI, thyroid hormones etc.
To eliminate interactions, drugs are administered two hours apart from ACIDOSTAT
When and how to take ACIDOSTAT
• Recommended in gastric hyperacidity, acid reflux and poor digestion with hyperacidity
• Usually take 1-2 tablets, as needed, when the symptoms are bothersome
• Not to exceed a maximum of 6 tablets per day
• The tablets are allowed to dissolve slowly in the oral cavity, or it can be crushed and swallowed
• Do not use in children under 6 years of age and for more than five days continuously.
Why ACIDOSTAT
- Transforms irritating gastric acid into harmless water and CO2 in just a few minutes
- Proven raft formation in human subjects (anti-reflux effect)
- It contains fast- and slow acting antacids in combination with alginate – triple effect
- It protects the gastric mucosa
- Antiacid and anti-reflux effects
- Has rapid effect with prolonged action (2-6 hours)
- Can be used by children above 6 years of age, pregnant people, lactating women and by diabetic patients (no sugar)
- Synergistic active ingredients
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Take 1-2 tablets in case of gastric hyperacidity.
